Cavities are, most often, caused due to the microbial activity in the mouth. When you do not brush your teeth properly or let food debris stay on them for a long time, the microbes in the mouth release acids and form a layer on the teeth, called plaque. When plaque isn’t removed regularly, it turns into a dark, hard, and sticky substance called tartar.

The bacteria in tartar have the ability to erode the enamel and reach the inner layers of the teeth. They decay the tissues of the teeth and make them vulnerable. When left untreated, the cavity can grow deeper and result in a root canal infection. This can put one’s entire oral health at risk.

What are the different types of fillings?

• Ceramic fillings: Tooth-colored ceramic fillings are widely preferred by dentists from all over the world to restore teeth infected by cavities. They are easy to work with, can be shaped as required, match the color of the teeth perfectly, and offer excellent sealing. Moreover, their durable nature allows them to last for several years without hassle.
• Composite resinous fillings: Composite resin is a reliable material that can be used as a filling to treat cavities, cracks, chipping and to fill the occlusal grooves of the molars and premolars. They can be made to match the exact shade of the teeth, which is why they are pretty good at staying in disguise.
