Dental Implants

Dental Implants are replacement teeth that are inserted in the place of the extracted ones. They are widely regarded as the sturdiest dental prosthetics as they are made from a Titanium stud and a ceramic crown. Together, they restore the aesthetics and functionality of the mouth.

At Valley Dental, we give a lot of prominence to restoring missing teeth as we know the importance of it. Dr. Browning is an experienced dentist who has treated hundreds of patients over her long-spanning career and would suggest the perfect treatment method to help get rid of your condition.

Why is replacing missing teeth essential?

  • Losing a tooth can alter the functions of the mouth, especially the way you bite, chew, and talk. Your phonetics would naturally be affected and you wouldn’t sound the way you used to earlier.
  • Due to the gap left by the missing tooth, excessive stresses will be applied on the adjoining teeth. This can make them get misaligned and also lead to pain in the teeth, jaws, and neck.
  • When a tooth is extracted, it will be removed entirely along with the root. A gap will be left in the jawbone, which allows the remaining teeth to loosen and move from their places. The alignment of the teeth and the jaws will alter due to this.
  • The jawbone tends to deteriorate or shrink due to the missing tooth. This affects the jawbone health as a whole.
  • Perhaps, the most important of all, the aesthetics of the smile will alter. This can cause a lack of confidence and the patient would naturally feel too conscious while interacting with people.

Why should you choose dental implants?

  • Implants are the strongest dental restorations as they are fixed to the jawbone. You can bite and chew food like you always do without having to worry about the implant breaking off or slipping out.
  • The implant crown is made from ceramic that is highly durable and stain-resistant. The rate of wear of the tooth is similar to that of the natural enamel.
  • Since the ceramic material is tooth-colored, its color, translucency, texture, and luster can be perfectly mimicked with that of the adjoining teeth. No one would ever know that it is a ‘fake’ tooth even if they take a closer look.
  • The implant prevents the adjoining teeth from drifting from their positions, thereby avoiding malocclusion.

How is implant surgery done?

During the initial appointment, various factors such as jawbone health, spacing available for the implant, gum health, overall state of the body, etc. will be taken into account to determine the candidacy for implants. X-rays, scans and highly-precise molds of the teeth will be taken to understand the structure of the mouth, the alignment of the teeth, and the jawbone thickness. It will be sent to a dental laboratory to fabricate the implant crown.

A small hole will be made in the jawbone where the implant stud will be inserted. It will be allowed to heal for a few weeks before the crown will be attached to it. Dental adhesives will be used for this purpose, after which a bite test will be conducted and any changes, if required, will be made. It will be polished to improve the appearance. After everything is done, your missing tooth will be restored to perfection.
