Tooth-colored Fillings

Fillings are amazing dental inventions that help to restore teeth that are cracked, decayed, chipped, or badly discolored. Different types of material are used as fillings, namely, gold, silver, amalgam, ceramic, composite resin, etc. Not all of them offer a tooth-colored appearance to help with the aesthetics of the smile. But, composite resin and ceramic can be customized to match the exact color of your teeth, allowing them to stay in disguise.

What are the advantages of getting tooth-colored fillings?

  • Tooth-colored fillings can be made in such a way that they perfectly mimic the color, texture, and translucency of your teeth. When applied on the cavity, anyone who looks at you smile or talk wouldn’t be able to distinguish the filling from the natural enamel.
  • Their bonding capacity is just excellent. When the tooth is etched and the filling is applied on it, it would perfectly adhere to the tooth surface without the need for grooves, pins or slots to hold it in place.
  • The material used as a filling is most often photosensitive. Meaning, it can be hardened in a matter a few seconds using a curing light as opposed to other filling material that can take several hours to harden.
  • Tooth-colored fillings are known to strengthen the structure of the tooth. A cavity can make the tooth weak and leave it susceptible to crumbling. However, restoring it using a filling can bring back its strength to about 80% to 90% of its original strength.
  • Tooth-colored fillings can be used to restore both the anterior and posterior teeth. Even if the cavity is at the back of a frontal tooth, it can be filled without compromising on the aesthetics.
  • They do not expand or contract too much when you consume anything too hot or cold. In fact, their rate of expansion is quite similar to that of the natural enamel.
